Boys State Meet Information

The following athletes qualified for the State Meet this weekend:

The bus will leave Northside at 4:30 pm on Thursday, and return Saturday evening.

We will be staying in the EIU dormitories within walking distance of the stadium.

To miss school on Friday, you must have the permission slip signed and turned into Andrew Mayer at the security desk Tuesday morning.

2018 Girls State Sectionals!

Girls Sectionals is this Wednesday, May 9th.

Bus leaves Northside at 2:30 pm. Print and fill out the early dismissal form.

Information for Varsity City Championships on Saturday (5/5)

Important: Athletes on the infield must stay inside the white lines of the football field or risk disqualifying the athletes they are cheering for!

The championship field is set for the 2018 Chicago Public League Track and Field Finals at Hanson Stadium, which will be held on Saturday, May 5.  Results at ilpreptoptiming.com and the heat sheets show who qualified for Saturday.

Due to inclement weather at the 2018 Boys’ Varsity Trials on May 2nd, the 300H, 1600M Run, 200M Dash and the Mile Relay were not contested and were pushed to Saturday.

Gwen Casey Double City Champion in the 800m and 1600m!

Gwen Casey doubled in the 800m and 1600m last Saturday to win both events in the Sophomore City Championships.

Gwen ran times of 2:34.11 in the 800m winning by over four seconds. After her 800m, she ran a tactical 1600m waiting to kick until the last lap where she opened up a sizable lead to win by FIFTEEN seconds finishing with a time of 5:43.64.

Distance Training – Week 16

Varsity City Trials are being held on Tuesday for girls and Wednesday for boys. Finals for both will be held on Saturday for those who advance.

Freshmen and sophomores are still practicing until Sectionals even if you may not race at Sectionals because we will try to get as many people down to the State Meet as possible.

  • Monday:
    • Easy run
  • Tuesday:
    • Varsity Girls Trials: Bus at 3:10 pm
    • Boys in the Trials: 20-30 minute pre-meet
    • Everyone else: Fartlek on Tempo Loop/Mather Course + weight training
      • 10 x 30 seconds at 1600m effort, 60s jogs between
      • Weight training at same weight (or slightly heavier), but 50% fewer reps
  • Wednesday:
    • Varsity Boys Trials: Bus at 3:10 pm
    • Everyone else: 40 minutes easy
  • Thursday:
    • 30 minutes easy
  • Friday: Practice starts at 3:45 pm on Friday
    • Saturday Finalists: 20 minute pre-meet
    • Everyone else:
      • Time trials with Mather and Von at River Park Track
      • Boys will have a short workout after to prepare for Sectionals.
  • Saturday:
    • Varsity City Championships Finals: Bus leaves at 8:30 am
    • Everyone else: 40-50 minute easy run on your own
  • Sunday: Rest day

Info for Varsity City Championship Trials!

Entries for Varsity City Trials – Entries are not final until after the CPS Coaches’ Seed Meeting held Monday night. Check the heat sheets for final, accepted entries.

Girls Heat Sheets – Girls Varsity Trials will be held on Tuesday. All girls were accepted into trials in some event.

Boys Heat Sheets – Boys Varsity Trials will be held on Wednesday.

Buses leave Northside at 3:10 pm both days. Bring your student ID. They will be checking.

Other Notes:

  • Athletes check in with the clerk at the bullpen area located in the North / West corner of the track. Athletes who fail to report will be scratched from the event.
  • Scratches: All coaches should report to the “Hospitality Shed” (at the North/West corner of the track) between 8:30AM and 9:00AM for any scratches.
  • Camps: Team camps may be set up in the bleachers on the South end of the track (outside of the fence). However, please respect spectators. Camps may also be set up in the grassy area to the south of the track (outside of the fence/Parking area). Please be cautious of the discus area southeast of the track.
  • Spikes: The surface is seal-flex rubber. Only 1/4″ (maximum) spikes are allowed.
  • Starting Blocks: New Trier will furnish starting blocks for all events.
  • The Trevian Invite is two levels, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Northside is only competing in the Varsity level.
  • Concessions: Our booster club will be providing concessions. Lunch will be provided for coaches.
  • Awards: A plaque will be presented for the 1st and 2nd place Varsity teams. In open events and relays medals will be given for 1st through 6th place. A plaque will be presented for the 1st place Junior Varsity team. Ribbons will be given in open events and relays for 1st through 6th place.
  • Scoring: 10-8- 6-4- 2-1 for all individual events. 10-8- 6-4- 2-1 for all relay events.
  • Rules: IHSA Sectional rules will be in effect unless otherwise noted.
  • Uniforms: School uniforms must be worn and in compliance with the sectional rules.
  • Coaches: Coaches will be allowed on the track during the meet, but we ask that you stay away from the finish line area. Athletes and parents are to stay off the track during the meet.
  • Trainer: New Trier’s training staff will be in attendance and will be available throughout the meet.
  • Field Events: All athletes will receive three (3) attempts in the shot put, discus, long jump and triple jump. We will take 8 athletes to the finals in each of these events. All athletes in the field events will be given 60 seconds from the time they are called until they must begin their attempt. An athlete who is competing in more than one field event must check in and out of their events accordingly.

 

Information for Boys Friday Meets – CPS Challenger and Glenbrook North Spartan Relays (4/27)

The boys not competing Saturday at Sophomore City will be competing on Friday this week. Rain is currently in the forecast, so be prepared.

Sprinters and Jumpers:

Sprinters will be at the CPS Challenger Meet at Hanson Stadium that was postponed from last week. There is no bus for this meet as last time.

Hanson Stadium is at Fullerton and Central (also the site of Outdoor City Championships). Entrance is through the parking lot of Dr. Jorge Prieto Math and Science Academy at:

Distance will be at the annual Glenbrook North Spartan Relays at:

2300 Shermer Road, Northbrook, IL 60062.

We could not get the bus time moved from the original time, so the bus will leave Northside at 12:30 pm tomorrow. However, the 4×8 has an estimated start time of 4:30 pm, so bring food. Early dismissal forms will be distributed at practice, but if possible, you should stop by the security desk and pick one up and start talking to your teachers today about missing classes after 12:20 pm tomorrow.
